MRgFUS vs Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS)
MRgFUS is no-incisions-treatment and HAS NOT the 1.2% risk of symptomatic intracranial haemorrhage as DBS, but any surgery with incisions could complicate with haemorrhage, infection, festering.
- DBS is famous for bilateral treatment, but modern MRgFUS can treat both sides, too, in many individual cases
- MRgFUS treament does not require implants, DBS is implantation of a stimulator and electrode.
- DBS stimulator should be replaced every 37.4±17.3 months [range: 4–93 months].
- DBS lead can fracture (break).
